"The Court of Appeals’ decision to uphold the 2023 law requiring counties and towns to hold elections for local office – such as town supervisor, town council, county executive, and county legislator – during even-numbered years is a meaningful step forward to strengthening our democracy by improving accessibility and encouraging voter participation.

"The data is clear. Voter turnout in Rockland County was 66% in 2024 and 50% in 2022. But we only saw 17% and 24% turnout in 2021 and 2023 respectively. Our community can not be adequately represented with such low participation.

"American citizens have a fundamental right and responsibility to cast their vote – and every American deserves the opportunity to choose who represents them. But for too many in our community there are barriers to casting their vote, like childcare needs, work schedules, and limited transportation options.

"Every Clarkstown resident deserves to be fairly represented – not just those who can take time off work or who can afford to go to the polling site every year. True representation exists when those in office reflect the people and that begins with ensuring every voice can be heard at the polls.

"Clarkstown Democrats are determined to win this year and will not stop working all year round to ensure Clarkstown residents are represented by elected officials that support and uplift their voices in every way possible."
