Clarkstown Democratic Committee Mission and Values
Adopted by the Clarkstown Democratic Committee in November 2024
Mission Statement:
The Clarkstown Democratic Committee seeks to uphold our democratic values and goals. We will work to secure a safe, just and prosperous future in a sustainable environment, supporting our diversity and promoting Democratic candidates who are true to these principles.
We Believe in democracy, by and for all people: as established by the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution and its amendments.
We Believe in freedom, justice, opportunity and respect for all, regardless of faith, race, gender identity, special needs or disability status, income, language, culture or place of origin.
We Believe that the purpose of government is to defend our democracy, protect our environment, and to promote the well-being of all, with access to adequate food and housing, quality education, affordable healthcare and equal protection under the law.
We Believe that converting these ideals into reality is our purpose as a political party.
Our Objectives:
As members of the Clarkstown Democratic Committee, we are dedicated to the fight for Voting Rights and Human Rights.
Voting Rights:
to ensure free and fair elections with equitable access to voting without undue influence of special interests
to guarantee that all elections are publicly financed, transparently organized and carried out according to State regulations.
to inform the population about our local governmental structures from School Boards through Town Boards to the County and State Legislatures, and all the ways their policies impact our lives.
to guarantee that our communication platforms will be above all truthful; clearly and accurately publishing verifiable, objective facts, and identifying AI-generated content
to enlist and support qualified candidates for local and state office who will actively pursue the objectives and values listed herein.
Human Rights:
Ensuring a healthy environment for all living beings, including clean air, land, and water, while carefully monitoring the impact of housing and commercial development.
Protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all people from the impact of natural and man-made disasters.
Supporting the needs of families for subsidized childcare, food security, healthcare and counseling programs.
Guaranteeing the right to privacy, including a person’s right to autonomy over their own body.
Promoting jobs with livable wages and safe working conditions.
Eliminating access to automatic and assault weapons among the general public, and pursuing comprehensive background checks for all weapons sales.
Upholding state and federal laws that protect our quality of life: mandating free quality education that meets state standards for all students; and protecting the medical and social security safety nets so vital to our elders and those in need.
Embracing and celebrating diversity, here and around the world.
Ensuring that every person in our society can freely live their lives and express their own beliefs, so long as they do not infringe on the rights and safety of others.
