In 2025, Eugene Bondar entered the race as a virtually unknown candidate with no established political base in Clarkstown. Despite this, he built a grassroots movement that energized Clarkstown residents who are tired of the same empty promises the Republican Party has been making for a decade.

Bondar consistently showed up for the people. He attended debates – all of which George Hoehmann failed to appear at. He attended public forums, engaged online, hosted Q&A sessions, had door-to-door conversations, and attended numerous community events. During which Bondar clearly laid out his plan for the town. These efforts led him from virtually zero name recognition to earning nearly 43% of the vote.

Bondar’s campaign was defined by substantive and clear goals, tackling important issues like code enforcement. So much so that town officials — who had spent ten years making promises and failing to deliver — are now rushing to implement policies which were proposed in Bondar’s campaign.

He is a distinguished attorney who has squashed waste, fraud, and abuse in government for a decade – ensuring that people like Hoehmann are stopped in their tracks. He began his career working for the New York City Department of Transportation, then the Department of Consumer Affairs, before being hired as a Principal Assistant County Attorney in County Executive Ed Day’s administration.

The claim that he was an attorney for former Mayor Bill de Blasio was intentionally misleading in order to frame the Republicans’ agenda and fear-monger. Bondar worked for the City, just like all of the NYPD, FDNY, and 200,000 other civil servants.

The Republicans’ statement attacking Bondar as a radical, and other comments circulating calling him “commie” or a “Mamdani wannabe,”  aren’t grounded in facts. It’s a scare tactic. They know they cannot win on ideas or their record, so they are trying to win on fear. They are scared, and they are relying on you to be scared too.

Bondar has been clear in his commitment to making Clarkstown more affordable for families and seniors, investing in public safety, confronting Clarkstown’s rising debt, and preserving our suburban way of life. Delivering on these priorities would represent real, meaningful change for our community — and real change often feels disruptive.

A Supervisor who is direct, shows up to debates, and follows through on their promises shouldn’t be considered radical. It should be the standard. The people of Clarkstown deserve better. They deserve leadership that works for them every day. Not just when they worry about losing an election.
